This is it. I promise. On our last day of staycation my true love sent to me… a hike. I’m more of the urban hiking type (walks on sidewalks) so we went outside the box and trekked up to Rattlesnake Lake.
This place was beautiful! You actually park by the lake and then hike uphill, through the woods, to Rattlesnake Ridge. Allen and I didn’t think we’d make it all the way to the top, but we figured we go until the complaining was unbearable. Just about three minutes into our hike Kate bit it on a rock in the middle of the path. The crying that ensued did not bode well for our hike but we forged ahead hand in hand. After a few more minutes Kate took the lead with Cooper and never looked back. She really enjoyed being in the pole position.
When we finally caught up to her for a water break Allen and I decided that it was time to head back. Kate begged us to keep going but I’m so glad we didn’t cave in. Jill was out in front this time with Ellie and me in the middle and Allen walking with Kate at the back. Holy moly! That kid has some lungs on her. Ellie, Jill and I could hear her coming a good 5 minutes before she and Allen caught up with us. Apparently the flies were just too much for her so she was hoping to scare them away with her shrieking? Not sure. I think she was just so wiped from the hike up that this is how she was expressing it. So glad we didn’t go any FURTHER!
I took this picture with my timer again, while we were waiting for the siren and her escort.
We had to end our hike with a stop at the lake. I say HAD to because Cooper was off leash and as soon as he got within sniffing distance of the water he was off and running. This was HIS favorite part.
I have no pictures of our weekend, but maybe I should check Kate’s memory card. I was off to Toronto for my cousin’s wedding (Joanna, I know you read my blog so here’s my shout out to you. Congrats to you and Rich! It was such a wonderful evening!) and Allen took the girls camping on the ocean. A fun time was had by all!
